Apr-2011The sound of the album
I’m trying to put together reference points for our album before we go into the studio in June.
Certain songs that have particular guitar tones, bass feel, drum goodness, vocal butter. Here’s what I got so far…
Jimmy Eat World- Praise Chorus, 23, Mixtape on their new album, and all the shimmery, tamberiney, gingly things that are always going on in the background of the Clarity album.
Brandon Flowers- vocals on the whole album…especially jilted lovers and broken hearts
Weezer- Only in dreams!!!
U2- I refuse to ever write music that isn’t influenced by these four dudes…ever!
Third Eye Blind- Motorcycle drive by (the last progression…pure epicness)
Death Cab- The new year (drum and bass heaven)
I want to throw in some sweet Roadside Monument breaks just for kicks!
The Weakerthans- Everything must go, Civil and Twilight
Pedro the Lion- The straight forward drums on the Control album and the single note guitar love
Mineral- We have one song that I want to capture the entire End Serenading album in!
Ryan Adams and the Cardinals- we might need a lap steel player
That’s what I came up off the top of my head.
Yes I realize I haven’t left the 90′s but I could care less.
Light the Letters is a rock band.
We write rock and roll songs.
Any references I’m forgetting???

April 8, 2011 at 12:22 pmCome on Dan…no Beautiful Mistake influences?! You can’t go wrong with Ryan Adams/Weakerthans/Mineral/J.E.W. Those are some of my fav’s. You should check out Gasoline Heart (the song “burn bright” is a gem) and Maritime (former members of The Promise Ring that sounds like The Cure/Smiths.)

Josh M.- False Catherdrals is one of the best albums to ever exist.
Josh H.- Sorry for T.B.M. oversight. Don’t know what I was thinking. Much love.
